Great article recently published by Dries Buytaert, founder of Drupal project, describing the balance of makers and takers in open source community: Small Open Source communities can rely on volunteers and self-governance, but as Open Source communities grow, their governance model most likely needs to be reformed so the project can be maintained more easily. There are three models for scaling and sustaining Open Source projects: self-governance, privatization, and centralization. All three models aim to reduce coordination failures, but require Open Source communities to embrace forms of monitoring, rewards and sanctions....

CakeDC upgrade adds Google Authenticator

Few days of work, and almost a month of waiting. It was totally worth it. Yesterday noon, CakeDC community upgraded one of its major plugins with our Qobo patch. It allows users to enable Google Authenticator. There’s no need anymore to use ‘dev-develop’ branches in composer.

WHMCS API: heritage of whmcs-ruby gem

Joshua Priddle did a great job back in DotBlock accomplishing Ruby binding for WHMCS API. Unfortunately, last signs of activity were 3 years ago. It’s a pity, as gem is great, and works like charm, but it became massively outdated, and piled with pull requests no one merged in the master branch for ages. The code was published by MIT license on 2011, thus whmcs-api gem will be its descendant, which I’ll try to keep updated as much as possible....
